Job Completion Reports

The Job Completion reports use SMF type 30 records and show information about jobs that completed during the selected time interval.

Jobs using z/OS Unix

Jobs or tasks that use z/OS Unix services often create processes that run in separate address spaces. These tasks usually have a different name to the parent job, may run in different service and report classes, and they write separate type 30 SMF records. Usage for resources such as CPU time is not included in the parent job's SMF type 30 record.

Some jobs can spawn thousands of child tasks. These tasks may only last fractions of a second but between them they can use significant amounts of CPU and I/O resources.

The EasySMF Job Completion reports attempt to link related tasks using the process id and parent process id information in the z/OS Unix Process Section. Child process are shown as a tree under the parent job. The tree can be expanded to show all children, or collapsed to show only the highest level job.

RelatedJobsExpanded

When expanded, resource consumption fields such as CPU time show the values for each particular entry. When a row is collapsed these fields will show the sum of the values for all descendant tasks. When sorting, these fields will sort based on the sum of the task and all it's descendants.

RelatedJobsCollapsed

The Related Processes check box controls filtering of tasks with parent-child relationships. When Related Processes is checked, the report will also include parents and descendants of jobs matching the filter criteria. This helps to understand the origin and relationship between jobs, which is not always obvious for z/OS Unix work.

Jobs which do not match the current filter but are included due to their relationship with other jobs are greyed out in the display.
